Sometimes our relationship with ourselves and with others—whether people, situations, or even things—can feel painful, as it may awaken old, familiar wounds. Guided by the idea that the map is not the territory, I walk alongside people as they explore their own path—their own territory—reconnecting with their authentic self while moving toward their goals consistently. Through this process, I support you in reconnecting with your inner wisdom, gifts and resources you already carry, helping you transform them into strengths and skills to navigate challenges and heal emotional pain. My work is grounded in a body–mind–soul approach that integrates somatic and mindfulness-based approaches with evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), all within a humanistic, trauma-informed and transpersonal framework. This eclectic therapy allows both, depth and practical insight into the challenges you may be facing. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, life transitions, and grief and loss, among other challenges. I also support couples facing communication difficulties, infidelity, jealousy, and control-related patterns. I was born and raised in Mexico, where I studied Business Administration at ITESM University. However, more than seventeen years ago, when my daughter was born, my life changed profoundly, leading me to immerse myself in therapy both personally and professionally. Through this journey, I came to understand the nuances of change—whether individual, within a couple, or in a family. In 2026, I became a mindfulness instructor and a Core Energetics therapist, training at the Core Energetics Institute of New York and Corpore México. I later completed a Master’s degree in Counselling at City University. I am currently a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).

Actualmente soy Consejera Clínica Registrada (RCC) y Consejera Certificada Canadiense (CCC).

I have spent a great deal of time working within the health and wellness realm, as well as the field of psychological sciences and mental wellbeing. Through previous work, I have diversified experiences collaborating with children, youth, and young adults in both an educational and social setting, as well as exploring developmental research as an assistant in a cognitive development lab. My personal experiences with therapy as well as my passion for wellness, healing and connecting with others propelled my own reflective journey and my desire to work within this field as a counsellor.

Through previous work experience with Direct Neurofeedback, I am a strong advocate for the mind-body connection and exploring how trauma and various stressors present themselves physiologically. Having a background in dance, yoga, and athletics, I am also passionate about the interplay of movement and psychological well-being within the healing process. Outside of the therapeutic space, I enjoy physical fitness and wellness, trying out new food and cafes, and spending time with friends and family.

I recognize that newly entering the therapeutic environment can be a daunting experience. Throughout our time together, I will be with you every step of the way – prioritizing your emotional safety and providing your optimal space for growth and healing. No two therapy sessions are the same and as such, the treatment process and our time together will be tailored to your individualized needs and goal trajectories. Woven into my therapeutic approach is a trauma informed, strengths-based and culturally aware framework in which your unique story and experiences drive our sessions.

I practice from an integrative theoretical lens, with an emphasis on humanistic and person-centred approaches. I often incorporate elements of the following into my work while also pulling from other modalities if seen fit…

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Internal Family Systems (IFS) Attachment Theory Somatic Therapy Mindfulness Individualistic client needs are at the centre of my work, and I believe in continuously adapting and shaping the therapeutic process to best align with you. Through this approach, we will collaboratively work towards attainable goals down a path that fosters self-discovery, self-growth, and self-acceptance.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. Choosing a counsellor is an important choice, and I find the therapeutic relationship works best when it’s founded on trust, honesty, and genuineness.

Before training to be a therapist, I was in business management for over 14 years. Those years showed me the stresses of daily living, the complexities of human relationships, and the unspoken burdens that most individuals carry. Then I was drawn towards more heart-centered work and did my Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Adler University.

I practice from an integration of models, including Adlerian psychology, Existential Psychotherapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I work from a belief that we all strive for meaning, connection, and belonging. In couples work, I use the Gottman Method—a research-based approach to help couples enhance emotional intimacy, heal conflict, and rebuild trust.

My work is informed not just by training, but by life experience. One of the most profound losses in my life was the passing of my mother. Grieving her death changed me, it taught me about the depths of sorrow, the complexity of healing, and the quiet courage it takes to keep living with an open heart. That experience deepened my compassion and helped me connect more authentically with clients facing grief, transitions, and emotional pain.

As an immigrant woman, I also understand what it means to reconstruct your life in another culture, to carry the weight of expectations, and to search for identity in a world that does not always reflect your reality. I offer counselling to individuals, adults, teens, and couples who are dealing with anxiety, depression, loss, identity, relationships, and major life transitions. My therapy room is warm, respectful, and judgment-free.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a depth-seeking, laughter-loving, soulful traveler. I love meaningful conversations, reading books that make me think, and being an aunt who’s more like a best friend.

If you’re ready to immerse yourself in your story, process your pain, or reclaim your inner strength, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. You don’t have to do this alone.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. Choosing a counsellor is an important choi... Read More

I believe that if you are reading this, you are already on your healing journey.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and I help individuals who are struggling with the human experience, including issues such as stress and anxiety, depression and mood issues, relationship issues including boundaries and communication, grief and loss, existential crises, and difficult or transitional life events. My personal experiences with motherhood, trauma, Post-Concussion Syndrome and navigating relationship challenges have fuelled my passion for therapeutic work and healing.

I am deeply aware of the importance of connection and belonging, especially when one is struggling, and bring this awareness into my work as a Clinical Counsellor. I strive to provide a safe container and a neutral space to process all of life’s experiences. I would describe my current therapeutic approach as primarily person-centred; trauma, attachment and nervous system (polyvagal) informed; accepting of all identities and experiences; and collaborative in nature. I have a background in dance, yoga and meditation and honour the mind-body connection as it relates to healing.

As Aristotle said, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

I look forward to meeting you, witnessing your journey and supporting you in your goals.

Hi, I’m Julia, Welcome! Thank you for reaching out.

I have a worldview lens given my 18 years of experience while practicing in South Africa, USA, and Canada including Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Smithers and Houston.

I believe in the importance of a safe place where you can feel heard, and respected. I view healing as a journey of returning or coming to a state where one feels safe, integrated and connected to their inner and outer world.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC#9429) with a Master of Science Degree in Counselling Psychology and Certified in Marriage and Family Therapy.

My approach is drawn from a range of evidence-based approaches, and worldview experiences which allows me to adapt my lens in response to what your needs are. I am dedicated to holding an open, friendly and inclusive space for you to feel safe and share your story.

Counselling allows us to look at our vulnerabilities with courage, create deeper meaning in life and live life with confidence and fulfillment. In our work together, you may learn to cope more effectively when conflict arises, create more fulfilling relationships and learn how to communicate about your needs.

My practice is built on an integrated social justice model, and I have a rich history of activism against racism and discrimination to ensure inclusivity of marginalized clients.

Counselling can be scary; I do respectfully approach the challenging issues; and we will work as a team to work towards your goals and encourage growth as a journey. Confidentiality and trust are an integral part of my clinical practice.

I have also been involved and have worked extensively in the Theatre Performing Arts where I danced, taught and choreographed dance professionally in the USA, working and a graduate of The Alvin Aily Dance School in New York, choreographer for the Dance Department at SCSU University, and the Artistic Director of the Children’s Multicultural Arts Connection.

In our work together, I support you to take a compassionate and curious look at your inner world of thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and memories. I teach you tools to loosen the grip of old narratives, unhelpful thought patterns and negative self-beliefs. As part of the healing journey, I take a look at how your earliest experiences and relationships shaped them. Along the way, I identify values, set goals and move you towards a more joyful and meaningful life.

I have experience working with:

Anxiety and stress Depression Trauma Phobias Marriage and Relationship issues Anger management Boundary setting Self-esteem and personal growth Major life transitions Multicultural issues, re-settlement, and integration issues for new immigrants I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and I have a Master’s of Counselling Psychology from the University of British Colombia (UBC) and a Masters of Business Administration. I work with individual adults and couples. I have been married for 30 years and am a mother of three grown children.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you.

Individuals

With individual clients, my therapeutic approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting (Level 3), and Emotional Focused Therapy. I also use Sensorimotor Psychotherapy—a type of therapy that relies on the bodily experiences of the individual as a gateway to awareness and improved mental health. My work includes Internal Family Systems (IFS) and corrective experience (AEDP). I tailor the treatment based on specific needs, preferences, and comfort level of my clients.

Couples

With couples I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)—which identifies the negative cycles couples get trapped in—and from Internal Family Systems (IFS). I also use Gottman Couples Therapy, which provides a road map as well as practical techniques to help clients improve relationships. In my many years of marriage, these modalities assisted my partner and I in finding each other over and over again and co-create the relationship we relish.

I believe counselling can provide a space to step away from the noise, better understand your thoughts and experiences, and develop greater clarity around the actions and changes that feel meaningful to you.

You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. Whether you are navigating a major life transition, relationships, school or career pressures, or simply trying to understand where you want to go next, having a space where you can speak openly and feel heard can be an important first step. My role is to work alongside you to explore patterns, recognize your strengths, and develop practical tools that can help you move through challenges with greater confidence and build a life that feels meaningful to you.

Born and raised in Vancouver, I have a particular interest in how digital spaces and communities can become meaningful parts of our identities, relationships, and sense of belonging. I hope to bring curiosity, openness, and a genuine willingness to understand the experiences that matter most to you.

In my practice, I work collaboratively with clients in defining problems and developing solutions. My purpose is to help you gain a clearer understanding of what is true and necessary for you while providing guidance and support in working toward change.

My clinical practice incorporates twenty-five years of training and experience in the treatment of:

Anxiety, depression, trauma and phobia Eating and other behaviour disorders Grief and loss Parenting challenges Couple’s Counselling In my work with individuals, I incorporate the therapeutic benefits of Mindfulness with both Cognitive-Behavioural and Somatic Experiencing therapies. I believe that all of us have an innate ability to heal our emotional wounds. My experience has shown me that when we attend to both the mind and the body in the healing process, desired change can occur much faster and with greater ease. These changes are experienced immediately as well as over the long-term.

I am trained in various treatment modalities including Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience (DARe) (see www.drdianepooleheller.com) and Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI) (see www.sightpsych.com).

As well as individual therapy, I work with couples to help them achieve and maintain a more meaningful connection with one another. Fifteen years of marriage has made me ever more sensitive to the stresses and changes that can negatively impact a committed relationship. From minor tune-ups to major problems, I have found the Bader -Pearson Developmental Model to be invaluable. Using this model as a road map, I am able to guide couples toward a deeper understanding of the root causes of their conflicts and, at the same time, provide concrete and effective methods to more easily deal with them.

I welcome any inquiries into my services!

Helping people transform life’s challenges into opportunities for change, growth, and connection has been my passion and focus for more than 25 years in my work as a social worker, counsellor, and psychotherapist. Using a variety of mind-body theories and approaches (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), I help my clients access their own (often hidden) resources to promote healing and transformation in their journey towards wholeness, authenticity, genuine positive relationships, and a deepening connection to self, nature, spirit, and community.

Originally from Montreal, I have been a passionate counsellor and therapist for over 25 years and a professional certified life coach for two decades. And with yearly professional development, I keep integrating new modalities, knowledge and skills into my practice. For example, this year I trained in Forest Therapy, and plan to initiate programs in this in 2026. Meanwhile, my keen observations and love of nature fosters an ability to draw from its wisdom in both practical and inspiring ways in sessions. My approach is to supportively walk alongside my clients as they navigate through difficult life transitions, grief, anxiety, burnout or other forms of adversity. And as initial trust deepens, we gently and non-judgmentally explore inner barriers, limiting beliefs, dysfunctional patterns or defense mechanisms that tend to impede the realization of their heart’s desires. My unique, custom-tailored style includes introspection and transformative exercises leading to a more relaxed nervous system, a reconnection with your own inner small voice, and expansive ways of thinking and being. What’s more, I usually provide practical resources and tools that you can proactively integrate into your self-care to improve your wellbeing and the quality of your life.
